Unholy trinity

1. The CQC. An utterly worthless organisation of box tickers who achieve nothing but to demoralise and demotivate wherever they stick their furtive carping noses, making life even more difficult for practices already on the edge.

2. Professor Stephen Field, a smug self serving arse licking arrogant utter bell end.

3. The Daily Mail!

And no, I'm not going to provide a link.

Human rights

December 10, today, is Human Rights Day. The UN declaration on human rights was issued on this date in 1948. Although in the UK we have a Human Rights Act is was not passed into law until 1998, some 50 years later. For reasons DZ can not understand there is considerable hostility to the Human Rights Act in the gutter press (daily mail) and even the present government seems hell bent on repealing it.

DZ feels that those who criticise or oppose the act can not possibly be familiar with it's articles. To summarise;

Article 2. (there is no article 1!). The right to life.

Article 3 The right not to be subjected to torture, or inhumane or degrading treatment.

Article 4 The right not to be held in slavery or servitude. (Jeremy Hunt take note)

Article 5 The right to liberty and security.

Article 6 The right to a fair trial. (GMC take note)

Article 7 The right not to be punished without law. (This is particularly relevant to the GMC, who insist on knowing if a doctor has committed an offense overseas, even if it is for something that is not illegal in this country, such as being gay for example)

Article 8 The right to respect for private life, which includes the right to privacy of correspondence.

Article 9 The right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.

Article 10. The right to freedom of expression, freedom of speech.

Article 11 The right to freedom of assembly and association.

Article 12 The right to marry

So, what's not to like?

I smell a rat!

So at the last moment the strike was averted, though too late for the thousands of patients who were told their appointments, operations etc were cancelled. It doesn't seem to me that there is very much concrete that the doctors have actually been offered. I don't think we've heard the end of this dispute.

Guidance

So the junior doctor's strike is almost certainly going ahead. Which puts DZ, as someone who does a little agency work from time to time, in something of a dilemma. He is very much supportive of the juniors and their action. They should strike, absolutely, and if DZ were in a substantive consultant post he would be keen to facilitate their action.

There is a strong likelihood that DZ will be asked to work one the days that action is taken. So does he refuse such offers as a gesture of support, or does he accept the work, at high agency rates to cause Hunt one more small financial pinprick.

Any views?

Wanking again

Staying on the other side of the Atlantic, DZ has in the past commented on the bizarre attitude towards masturbation exhibited by some of the fringe religions over there. Well it's not just the fringe as this statement from the "United States conference of catholic bishops" demonstrates.

............................... other sins in addition to those already mentioned, especially masturbation. Masturbation, which is deliberate, erotic stimulation often to the point of orgasm, commonly occurs together with pornography use. While popular culture largely sees it as acceptable, masturbation is always gravely contrary to chastity and the dignity of one's body. Like other sins against chastity, it seeks sexual pleasure outside of the mutual self-giving and fruitful intimacy of spouses in marriage, in this case, even outside of any relationship at all. In addition, engaging in masturbation has powerful neurological effects that can make it into a highly addictive behavior. However, true freedom from this destructive habit is possible with the grace of Christ."

DZ had always subscribed to Woody Allen's view of wanking, that it's "safe sex with someone you love" but apparently not. Even the view that DZ had thought long discredited, that wanking causes mental health issues is promoted. It must be true obviously, this is the catholic church talking. And they do so have the moral high ground.

Dear future doctor

DZ has been sent a video by some Medical Students in the USA. I think it's just as appropriate over here. Enjoy. And thank you Laura.
