More Defiance

Regular readers will know that I have a soft spot for the ice cream manufacturers Federici , not only for their rather nice ice cream but also for some of their advertisements, which, rather gently in my view, mock catholicism. A (very small) number of complaints have resulted in the advertising standards authority banning two of their adverts, bans which can only be considered as a gross, excessive and unjustifiable restriction of freedom of expression.

Well Federici have refused to sign an undertaking not to run further advertising which might offend catholics and are challenging the ban. Good for them and I hope they win. If you agree then you can communicate your views to the ASA here.

And then we might get more pictures of the nun in the stocking tops.

  1. You have offended the French then 'amended', on 'your' own terms, mind you!

You are now offending the Catholics, and Christianity for that matter! Any amends?

And nothing at all about weakileaks?! I thought you'd have a field day and perhaps post a zillion times on those, since they are done under the banner of 'freedom of speech', a subject close to your heart! ... or is it only close when it suits?!

    No wonder though! ;)

  2. The French are a nation of people and as such they cover the whole spectrum of humanity. It should have been quite clear to any perceptive individual that my comment about them was entirely tongue in cheek.

Catholicism however, has been described by a far better man than me as
"the second most evil religion on Earth", a description with which I entirely agree. Guess which religion he put at number one. So they may be offended. So fucking what.

  3. Of course the French are predominantly Catholic!

"The French are a nation of people and as such they cover the whole spectrum of humanity."

    But religion isn't?

    ...and about 'humanity';

The quality of being human; the peculiar nature of man, by which he is distinguished from other beings ;-D

    2. n. Mankind 'collectively'; the 'human' race.

    3. n. The quality of being humane; the kind feelings, dispositions, and sympathies of man; especially, a disposition to relieve persons or animals in distress, and to treat all creatures with kindness and tenderness.

    4. n. 'Mental cultivation'; liberal education; instruction in classical and polite literature.

. n. The branches of 'polite' or elegant learning; as language, rhetoric, poetry, and the ancient classics; belles-letters.

    Humanity?!!

Don't concern yourself, oh 'obsecure and unremarkable one' who 'will always stay that way'!

The astounding reality is though, You don't even realise why you are in such a predicament! That, in itself, is by no means human!

... and nothing at all about 'Wikileaks' despite me asking oh most undeluded and courageous one! :-D

... oh yes, and I won't watch that video on you tube, I am not bothered! You watch it!

  4. No ZI, Religion, unlike a nationality is NOT a nation of people. In case you had not noticed I have not mocked catholics on this occasion but catholicism itself. Are you saying that religious institutions are beyond criticism & ridicule. What next, political parties, professions, governments? What is it you want exactly?
